GRADUATION SHE COMPLETED A 7 MONTH INTERNSHIP AT THE RENOWNED BEIJING
UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL. FROM THERE SHE BEGAN HER CAREER WORKING FOR A
MEDICAL DOCTOR WHO SPECIALIZED IN CHRONIC PAIN. CHARLENE HONED HER
SKILLS BY TREATING UPWARDS OF 80 PATIENTS A WEEK. THERE SHE TREATED
EVERY TYPE OF PAIN CONDITION IMAGINABLE AND RECEIVED FEEDBACK FROM HER
PATIENTS DAILY THAT ACUPUNCTURE WAS THE MODALITY THAT WAS GIVING THEM
THE MOST EFFECTIVE PAIN RELIEF.

CHARLENE BECAME INTERESTED IN ACUPUNCTURE, NATURAL MEDICINE, NUTRITION
AND YOGA IN HER 20’S. BATTLING WITH WEIGHT, HORMONAL ISSUES,
ALLERGIES AND CHRONIC PAIN FROM A CAR ACCIDENT LEFT HER LOOKING FOR
ANSWERS. SHE WAS FASCINATED AND EXCITED BY THE THEORY THAT IF YOU GIVE
YOUR BODY WHAT IT NEEDS IT WILL HEAL. IN HER HEART SHE BELIEVED THAT
WAS TRUE AND WANTED TO PUT THAT THEORY TO THE TEST. BY FEEDING HER
BODY PROPER NUTRITION, GETTING ACUPUNCTURE REGULARLY AND INCORPORATING
YOGA SHE WAS ABLE TO TRANSFORM HER HEALTH.

A native of Peabody, MA, Elizabeth graduated from Mt. Ida College in 1986 and Lesley University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in Human Services and Art Therapy.

After several years working in public and private sectors, Elizabeth witnessed the positive impacts of acupuncture and decided to study Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). She graduated from the oldest school in the United States, the New England School of Acupuncture and is an NCCAOM Diplomate licensed to practice in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. In addition, Elizabeth pursued advanced acupuncture training in Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture protocol (“cosmetic acupuncture”) and Master Tung Acupuncture Style that advances patients recovery with minimal needles to bring about maximum response.

The Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture practitioner believes holistic beauty is achieved by working on the inside to most effectively change the outside appearance, allowing innate beauty to emerge. Cosmetic acupuncture system is often referred to as an “acupuncture facelift” or “Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture”, but it is much more than a “cosmetic” procedure. It is a rejuvenation and revitalization process designed to help renew your skin’s appearance while promoting a healthy mind and body. Elizabeth studied the Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture system under one of its developers, Dr. Martha Lucas, PhD, LAc., Doctor of Research Psychology, nationally certified and licensed to practice TCM. Mei Zen Cosmetic Acupuncture is also highly effective in balancing hormones that can cause acne. As a result, there is a reduction or elimination of both rosacea and acne by restoring harmony in the body and clearing "qi" blockages or nerve channels throughout the body.

Elizabeth's goal is to provide healthcare through the practical application of TCM. She looks forward to working with those in the western medical community, as well, to provide a truly holistic medical service to her patients, promoting the body’s natural healing processes.

The goal of Holistic Balance Acupuncture is to achieve optimal health as well as complete well-being and balance through the application of acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, using integrative and holistic approaches. We aim to improve the quality of all aspects of life – physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional – for each and every patient.

Marcia Nogueira, M.S., L.Ac. has been practicing acupuncture since 2004 and has been in her Thousand Oaks location for the past 7 years. She is a graduate of Samra University of Oriental Medicine where she received her Master's degree in Oriental Medicine. She completed her undergraduate education at UCLA where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychobiology. She is a California board licensed acupuncturist and currently practices both Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine. She has traveled to China to further her studies of Eastern Medicine and completed an internship at the International Acupuncture Training Center in Beijing.
