I am a Doctor of Oriental Medicine (Hong Kong), a Listed Chinese Medicine Practitioner (CMP) in Hong Kong and a Licensed Acupuncturist in Connecticut and Hawaii. I maintain my primary practice in Simsbury, Connecticut and a secondary practice in Hong Kong, served by my colleagues, which I established in 1988. I provide individualized clinical treatments in addition to wellness consultation services for corporations, performers, and elite athletes. I use a combination of approaches designed to comprehensively treat patients. My treatments respect and complement conventional allopathic medical treatment. Emphasis is placed on physical complaints but with a keen appreciation of the client's emotional and mental states. Underlying this approach is the assumption that illness and discomfort often have roots that go deeper than the physical and that attitudes and lifestyle have a profound effect on physical health.
I serve as president of the National Guild of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine, Guild 62, OPEIU, AFL-CIO, which is dedicated to providing the American public with the highest level of acupuncture and oriental medicine care available anywhere in the world. We are committed to life-long training and professional development for all US medical providers who have needling therapy within their scope of practice. We pursue a three-fold mission that addresses current problems that impede patient access to quality and evidence-based Chinese Medicine as well as the ability of practitioners of acupuncture and Chinese Medicine to work successfully in their field. Our mission is: 1)To educate practitioners to a level of competence that meets the standards of primary care and full integration with conventional mainstream medicine; 2) to provide workforce opportunities for qualified practitioners in mainstream medicine, and; 3) to hold accountable governmental agencies that oversee the profession. I have been a medical advisor for Action Asia Events, an adventure racing organizer with events throughout Asia (www.actionasiaevents.com) and I started and served as the first chair of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong Health & Wellness committee (www.amcham.org). Since 2004, I have been the Hong Kong Advisor for the National Oriental Medicine Accreditation Agency (www.nomaa.org) which supports high international standards for professional competency in Oriental Medicine. I serve as director of the Hong Kong office of the Kendall Institute, which promotes the western physiological basis of needling therapy and emphasizes continuing professional development. I am a past president of the Hawaii Acupuncture Association and a former director of medical acupuncture services for one of Hawaii's largest interdisciplinary worker's accident and auto injury facilities. For 25 years I have been a leader in the effort to integrate the best elements of western and eastern approaches to health to optimize health, respect patient choice and to reduce healthcare costs. (See the Articles & Newsletters section for more details). In addition, I am a highly regarded speaker and program presenter. I have been a regular guest on RTHK Radio 3 since 1988, and his articles and interviews have been featured in South China Morning Post, Hong Kong Standard, Asian Wall Street Journal, Business Traveler Magazine, Human Capital Hong Kong & China and many other publications.
